Every year we review our significant environmental risks and set targets relating to these.  This year we identified four significant environmental risks associated with our operations – water use, electricity use, waste to landfill and aluminium use through plate production.  Based upon these risks we set four targets.

As part of our commitment to continual improvement, we have started measuring our targets against our machine impressions.  This will ensure more accurate and measurable data and allow us to aim for more achievable reductions.

Waste:

Our target has been set at a 5% reduction in our waste sent to landfill per one million machine impressions, for the 12 months September 2011 – August 2012, based on the preceding five months (1.17m³ waste to landfill per 1 million machine impressions).

Water:

Our target has been set at a 5% reduction in the water used at 24 Norton Rd for the 12 months September 2011 - August 2012 per one million offset impressions from the preceding six months (97kl of water per one million offset machine impressions).

Aluminium:

Our target has been set at reducing the amount of plates remade as a percentage of the total plates made to 7.5%.

Electricity:

Our target has been set at a 5% reduction in the amount of electricity used for the 12 months from September 2011 to August 2012 per one million machine impressions from the preceding five months (6792kwh electricity used per one million machine impressions).
